Sarah Devries
Sarah works for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality as the Environmental Program Coordinator. Sarah’s passion for clean drinking water began as a child when her family became ill from drinking contaminated well water. This early experience inspired her to focus on addressing water quality and involving the public in local efforts. Sarah earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR and her Master's degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University, Worcester, MA. From 2005-2009, Sarah worked for the Arkansas Rural Water Association as the Source Water Protection Technician. She has worked in a variety of water-related environmental fields such as the Arkansas Dept. of Health as a Pollution Control Inspector, the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Quality in their Watershed Division as an Engineer Technician, an Alternative Energy Supply store, and as a Park Interpreter for the Arkansas State Parks. Sarah is the head of the Watershed Outreach and Education section, and serves as the state’s Watershed Coordinator operating the Arkansas Watershed Advisory Group. Sarah has brought ingenuity and dedication to ADEQ’s Water Division efforts to educate Arkansans of their water quality and measures they can take to protect the Natural State’s waterways.
