Sarah Devries

Sarah DeVries joined Arkansas Rural Water Association in June 2005 as the Source Water Technician. As the source water technician, she develops source water protection plans for rural communities, which involves public education and outreach.  In the past year, Sarah has coordinated with Arkansas Game and Fish, University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension, Conservation Districts, local schools, watershed groups and the Arkansas Watershed Advisory Group to advance the goals of the source water program.
Previously, Sarah worked for the Arkansas Department of Health as a Pollution Control Inspector.  Sarah has also worked for; the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Quality in their Watershed Division as an Engineer Technician, an Alternative Energy Supply store, and as an Park Interpreter for the Arkansas State Parks.   Sarah earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR and her Masters degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University, Worcester, MA.  Sarah’s passion for clean drinking water began as a child when her family became ill from drinking contaminated well water. This early experience inspired her to focus on addressing water quality and involving the public in local efforts. Sarah has brought ingenuity and dedication to ARWA in their continuing efforts to address water quality.
