2010 Mini Grant Program
Spring Funding Cycle for Non-formal Educators
 
The Arkansas Environmental Education Association (AEEA) is soliciting proposals of up to $150 for AEEA’s mini-grant program. The mini-grant program is designed to support, enhance and expand the implementation of environmental education throughout the state of Arkansas.
 
Eligible Applicants:
The Spring Funding Cycle is limited to non-formal educators who are paid members of AEEA. AEEA will announce a Fall Funding Cycle for formal classroom educators later this Fall.
 
Eligible Costs and Projects:
Requests should focus on projects/activities that help to educate students, visitors, or community members about natural resources or the environment. Examples of items eligible for funding include: equipment, books, program materials, displays, guest speakers, field trip expenses, etc.
 
Ineligible Costs:
Grant funds cannot be used for food or beverages, overhead, salaries, stipends or to reimburse any expenses prior receipt of award notification.
 
Funding and Payment:
The AEEA mini grant program will be a competitive process. A committee of AEEA Board members will evaluate each proposal based on the guidelines below. The Project Coordinator of the winning proposal will be notified of acceptance by June 1st. At that time, a check will be mailed from the AEEA treasurer.
 
Project Reporting:
A post-grant report is required within one year of the grant award.
 
AEEA’s criteria for judging the grant applications:
  • Applications must be received by May 1, 2010
  • Complete and attach application form along with the information requested below
  • Limit proposals to a maximum of two pages NOT including the application form
  • Send completed application form and proposal to the address provided on the form
  • Proposals may also be submitted via email as long as all required information from the application form is included. Submit proposal with “Mini-Grant Application” in the subject line to rbeadel@arkforests.org
  • A limit of one grant per facility will be awarded in any given year
  • Applicants may re-apply each year

AEEA Sets 2010 Goals

The 2010 AEEA Board of Directors has set goals for 2010.  These goals include:

  • Increase general membership to 175
  • Provide two mini-grants (one for formal educator and one for non-formal educator)
  • Conduct a successful EE Expo with an attendance goal of 100+
  • Continue to develop an Environmental  Literacy Plan for the state
  • Begin planning for two EE Fests in 2011

 AEEA Achieves 2009 Goals!

The goals for 2009 included:

  • Increase membership to 100
  • Hold two EE-Fest Events in 2009
  • Begin making plans for EE Expo 2010
  • Award two AEEA Mini-Grants
  • Begin development of a process for professional EE certification

Highlights of 2009 include:

  • 109 paid members at the end of 2009
  • Held a Food, Land, and People workshop in June and  Places We Live and Forests of the World workshop in December
  • Awarded AEEA's first mini-grant to Kristi Trotter-Hattenhauer of Jonesboro Math and Science Magnet School
  • Hired a new Executive Director, Brad Robertson
  • Sent an AEEA representative to the Affiliate Meeting held during the 2009 NAAEE conference in Portland, Oregon
  • numerous other accomplishments and goals benefiting AEEA, our membership and EE in Arkansas
