Keynote Address: Michelle Harvey, Environmental Defense Fund
Michelle Harvey co-leads Environmental Defense Fund's on-site partnership with Wal-Mart in Bentonville advancing sustainable business practices throughout their operations and supply chain. Michelle's areas of responsibility include alternative energy; chemicals; human and environment interactions; sustainable agriculture and forestry; life cycle inventory and analysis; and water. She received her MBA from Duke University and her B.S. Forestry from the University of the South.
Prior to joining EDF, Michelle ran a consulting business focused on facilitation, strategic planning, and project management in sustainable forestry and agriculture. Previous positions included the Director of Science and Education for the Society of American Foresters; Vice President for Programs and Education for the National Environmental Education Foundation; the Director of Environmental Partnerships Initiative with the Management Institute for Environment and Business; and Executive Director, Manager, Planning and Development for the American Forest Foundation. Other employers included Duke University School of the Environment; and International Paper Company. Michelle is on the external advisory board of the University of Michigan Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute; she previously served on the US CDC National Center for Environmental Health Advisory Council, the American Forest Foundation Center for Environmental Learning Operating Committee, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Verifiers Accreditation Subcommittee.
Michelle has extensive experience with environmental education throughout her career. She will share some of these experiences, her knowledge on issues affecting educators, and viewpoints on ways environmental education benefits our youth and citizens of tomorrow.
